Fortin evo all stopped working on my 12 optima with push to start

+1 vote
I had fortin evo all with viper 5901 installed and it worked fine for a while. Then the car wasn't able to detect the OEM key in the car and i had removed the unit and updated the bypass module. After the update, the car no longer turns over with the remote starter. It cranks but doesn't turn over because the bypass module isn't functioning proerly and the car doesn't think there is a key in the car.

I've replaced the bypass unit with a new one and it still doesn't work and i get the same error.

I've reprogrammed it when i replaced it with a new unit and i've noticed that after pressing start button twice, instead of red and blue light blinking, the red light stops blinking and only the blue light blinks continuously...

what could be the possible issue?

Hello,

Measure the voltage on all 4 can-bus wires. There should be about 2.5 Vdc on each Can wire (Can-Hi1, Can-Lo1, Can-Hi2, Can-Lo2).  Only the blue LED flashing with the the latest firmware may actually be okay.

  • From the EVO wiring, when the Grey set of Can wires are not good, no LEDs would turn on.
  • From the EVO wiring, when the Orange set of Can wires are not good, the red LED will flash and the blue LED will jsut stay solid blue.

If your Can wires all test correctly at about 2.5Vdc, best to know if the Can is actually programmed correctly is to test the status outputs (door trigger, foot brake, tach etc..) and door locks.

Also, since you are using a Viper system, make sure you have the EVO-ALL set to the D2D protocol if you want to use datalink connections. To change the protocol, you need to turn on Option 21.3 in the EVO.

I have the viper wired as w2w so that ican use my factory fob to remote start.

As for the only blue light blinking being okay, I've spoken to other members with the same model of car, remtoe starter, and by pass and they've all informed me they had both blue and red blinking lights.

I've programmed the bypass few times and still had the issue of not detecting the key...

I've replaced the older hardware version 4 bypass with the newer hardware version 6 and still had the same issue.

The only fault i've found is that the red light isn't blinking when i'm trying to program it. Does red light led not blinking signfiy anything?

thank you

The LED diagnostic is seriously related to which firmware you are using on the EVO-ALL for Hyundai/Kia vehicles.

Questions are:

  • What firmware are you using? (what is the 12-digit service number written on the back of the EVO)
  • Does the RED LED turn off while the blue flashes or does the red LED stay on

During programming, the first 10x RED flash indicates key programming. Having only the BLUE LED flash afterwards, at the end of programming, with the latest firmware, is normal.

On a another note. When remote starting the vehicle, the RED LED should be first to turn on. This indicates that it received the Ground-when-running (status) from the remote starter.

If it also worked for a while then stopped working, the problem may also be coming from the remote starter. Having Ignition and Accessory reversed may cause the problem you discribed. Having maybe a lose connection somewhere would cause faulty starting.

Viper also has a diagnosis of flashing the parking lights a certain amount of times when it failed to remote start the vehicle.

The service number is: 001A04 052768. I don't know the software, but hardware vr 4. I have the newest software available on the site.

So after the red led flashes 10times, instead of both red and blue LED flashing, the red light turns off and only the blue remains flashing.

When i remote start, the red led doesn't turn on at all, only the orange light turns on and stays on.

I don't think it'd be the remote starter because it stopped working when i removed the bypass to udpate it. That was the only change i've made to the installation.
While doing the firmware update to EVO, someone also turned on Stand Alone remote starter. This is why the RED LED is not turning on when remote starting.

Turn option 14 and 15 off in the EVO.

This is the current status of the EVO: http://ifar.ca/en/support/001a04052768/
So if i turn off option 14 and 15, it should be able to turn over?

Also, I am planning on modifying the install in the future so that i can use the oem remote to start the car. Would i have to enable to feature again to do so?
Only option 14 for OEM remote monitoring (datalink only).

Option 15 converts the EVO into a remote starter for Stand Alone compatible vehicles. The inputs and outputs from the 20-pin are all changed around when that option gets turned on.

You can actually just leave option 14 on, but turn off option 15.

EDIT: I just wanted to add that if you turn on Option 21.3, you could use D2D instead of W2W with the viper unit. You're already all wired up, but for other installs at a later time, you could do that.
yup... that was the issue... It works perfectly now haha. I guess the installer didn't know what that does and accidently turned it on.

Thank you so much!!
My pleasure! Glad you got it all figured out.
